Last week Lauren E, a lovely Health and Social Care student at Bracknell and Wokingham College, joined the Bright Spark Angels on their rounds for her week placement.
It was a delight to have Lauren work alongside our team and to see her comfortably slot in the routine.
At the age of 14 Lauren followed in her brother’s footsteps and volunteered at a youth club and her desire to work in the care industry stemmed from this experience. During her time as a young volunteer Lauren took her First Aid and Safeguarding training and enjoyed working with and helping young people.
This experience made Lauren realise she enjoys working in places where she can make a difference and, after seeing her mother work for Bright Spark and hearing the stories of the lovely clients she looks after, Lauren thought that she would like to focus on working with the elderly.
On her first day at Bright Spark Lauren was nervous as she did not know what to expect, but as soon as she walked in her first call and met Angie all her worries melted away. Angie, Field Care Supervisor, introduced herself and put Lauren at ease straight away. It was very interesting for Lauren to see how Angie and the carers kindly handled the clients and how they caringly and yet efficiently assisted them with their personal care.
After her week “on the field” Lauren is now, more than ever, looking forward to becoming a fully-fledged carer and to be able to build bonds with all those lovely elderly clients who need our help to live the independent and fulfilling lives they wish and deserve to live.
At Bright Spark we hope that once Lauren has completed her studies we will be able to tempt her to join our team and become one of the Bright Spark Angels just like her mother!Back to all Posts
