Welcome to the team! At Bright Spark Care we value learning and development and take great pride in the quality of training we offer to all our employees.

When you first join Bright Spark, we make sure you undertake all the necessary classroom training and enough shadow shifts to give you the confidence to provide the best person-centered care to our Service Users.

Once you join us you will undergo the following 5-day training:

Day 1 

  • You will be introduced to the team and go through your handbook which will see you though your first 6 months of working with us
  • Infection control training –  aimed at all staff working in the care environment. Individuals will understand the importance of implementing infection control measures in the workplace.

Day 2 

Moving and Handling – an essential course for employers wishing to comply with The Health and Safety Act of 1994, The RCN Code of Practice 1996, The provision and use of work equipment regulations 1998 (PUWER), Lifting operations and lifting equipment regulations 1998 (LOLER).

Day 3 

Medication: At the end of this session participants will be able to:
State their own obligations and those of their employers in regards to the documentation and administration of medicines;
Have an awareness of the best ways to store medication and the advice they can give in regards to this;
Different types of medication and how they work;
The 7 guidelines to medication administration;
Drug errors;
Disposal of medication.

Day 4 

First Aid – at the end of this course you will:

  • Be able to, understand actions to be taken in the event of an emergency;
  • Use  cardiopulmonary resuscitation methods;
  • Provide first aid to a choking casualty.

Day 5

Safeguarding –  at the end of this course you will:

  • Have an understanding of safeguarding adults;
  • Understand the different types of abuse, how they are presented and what actions to take where there is a suspicions of abuse taking place;
  • Know how to report and record abuse.

Mentoring Program:  During your first 12 weeks of your employment with Bright Spark, you will be assigned a mentor. Your mentor will support you, answer any queries you may have and be your main port of call while finding your feet.

Alongside the above training staff will complete the following E-Learning modules:
• Communicating effectively;
• Consent;
• Fire Training;
• Induction awareness;
• Principles of care and confidentiality;
• Record keeping.

Your training does not STOP there. Over your first 12 weeks you will also be enrolled on further classroom based training courses:

  • Person centered care
  • Health and Safety
  • Food Hygiene
  • Equality and diversity
  • Mental capacity and deprivation of liberty safeguards

We also offer further classroom training to support clients with specific requirements:

  • Nutrition and fluids;
  • Dementia awareness;
  • Prevention of falls;
  • End of life care.
